Charles A. “Chuck” Warner, 76, Altoona, went to be at peace in the arms of our Lord on Wednesday after a long, courageous battle with dementia and other related health issues.

He was born in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Charles Raymond Warner and Ruth (Anderson) Warner, and moved to Altoona shortly thereafter. On July 1, 1961, he wedded Gloria Jean Shoenfelt, with whom he shared nearly 57 years of marriage.

Surviving are his wife; two children: Douglas (Tricia) Warner and Rebecca (Rob) McNair; two grandchildren: Anna Warner and Brandon Long, all of Altoona; two sisters: Marti (Brian) Henry of York and Peggy Cain of Gulfport, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and was involved in sales his entire life. He worked for many local companies, including Busy Beaver, Clasters, Marhofer Bakery, Curtis Industries and Baltimore Life. In 1973, he procured Schmittle’s Clover Farm Store in the Llyswen area of Altoona, which he proudly ran under the name Warner’s Grocery. He was a member of the Llyswen United Methodist Church, Altoona.

Later in life, Chuck enjoyed attending auctions and buying and selling doodads and baubles. Aside from his married life, his greatest joy was his grandchildren, Brandon and Anna. He would become almost giddy with anticipation waiting to give them some trinket he had purchased at an auction for them. He also enjoyed nature shows and his wife’s cooking.

For the past 18 months, he was a resident at The Allegheny Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg. The staff knew him as “Chuckles” because of his delightful sense of humor.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2018, at The Good Funeral Home Inc. (near Walmart). A short service will follow immediately after the visitation. At the conclusion of the service, friends are invited to share food, fellowship and memories at Frankstown Park Missionary Church, Church Lane, Hollidaysburg.

The family would like to encourage friends and relatives to donate to The Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, 998 Logan Blvd., Altoona PA 16602, where Chuck received excellent and dignified care from a truly kind, caring and professional staff.
