David M. Hoover, 80, of Altoona, died early Saturday morning at Guardian Healthcare, Altoona. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late William D. and Henrietta C. (Martin) Hoover.
He married Linda L. Watchey on Jan. 31, 1976, in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Linda; a daughter, Jessica L. Hoover, of Altoona; two brothers, Edward Hoover (Janice) of Altoona and Kevin Hoover (Nancy) in Kentucky; two sisters, Donna Blair and Dorothy Stayer (Richard), both of Altoona; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Martin of Altoona.
David was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Merrill “Pepper” and Robert Hoover.
Mr. Hoover was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Juniata.
He was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School.
David was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the Army Airborne Division.
He retired as a safety supervisor from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 46 years of service.
He enjoyed gunsmithing, golfing, hunting, fishing and bowling.
David was a member of Hiram Lodge No. 616, Free and Accepted Masons; a member of Jaffa Shrine, where he belonged to the Jaffa Oriental Band unit and the Legion of Honor unit; and a member of the Jaffa Ushers. David was also a member of the Juniata VFW (Fort Apache), and a lifetime member of the United Veterans Association (UVA).
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at the funeral home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Elizabeth Hess officiating.
Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
