Thomas Joseph ‘Tom’ Cheslock Sr.

April 15, 1943 – Aug. 2, 2022

 

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Cheslock Sr., 79, died early Tuesday morning surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. He was born in Gallitzin, a son of the late Michael and Ann (Zolnak) Cheslock.

He married Judith A. Hoover on July 24, 1965, at St. Leo Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Judy; two children, Shelly Weakland (John) of Duncansville and Thomas J. Cheslock Jr. (Krista) of Malvern; five grandchildren: Alex (Brooke), Amanda, Hannah, Mia and Austin; three great-grandchildren: Greyson, Asher and Finnley; two sisters; and numerous extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Tom was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School.

He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, where he was stationed on the USS Enterprise.

Tom was employed by Altoona Water Authority for 42 years. Following his retirement, Tom enjoyed working at Allegheny Supply, assisting with maintenance and lawn care.

He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. He also enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool. Tom most especially loved spending time with his children and all his grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Pastor Duane J. Coy officiating.

Interment with military honors will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
