Leora K. Hoffman, 75, Riggles Gap, Antis Township, died Tuesday morning at her home.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Andrew E. and Mary Geraldine (Morrison) Shuma. On June 4, 1971, she married John E. “Jack” Hoffman at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 2012.

Surviving are two daughters: Andrea L. (Keith) McGraw of Roaring Spring and Tricia K. Maceno of Antis Township; a stepson, Brett T. of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two grandsons: Kyler J. and Noah A. Maceno, both of Antis Township; a step-granddaughter, Jessie C. Hoffman of Honolulu, Hawaii; four brothers: Andrew Shuma Jr. of Shokan, N.Y., Robert and John, both of Altoona, and Kevin in Texas; three sisters: Beverly Crabtree and Bonnie Johnson, both of Altoona, and Marilyn Shuma in Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three siblings: Michael, Barbara Rose and Joan Shoenfelt.

Leora was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School. In 1983, Leora earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and kindergarten education from Penn State University. She furthered her education, earning a Master of Education degree in curriculum and instruction in 1989. She retired in 2005 as an elementary school teacher from the Bellwood-Antis School District.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. Leora was Past Matron of Delphi Chapter No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Royal Matron of Juniata Valley Court No. 121 Order of the Amaranth and a member of Dorcas Temple No. 129 Daughters of the Nile. She was also past president of Bellwood-Antis BPW District 5 and a member of Alpha Delta Kappa.

Leora enjoyed spending time at her daughter’s dance studio and especially loved time with her grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2018, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at

4 p.m. Friday. Friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Traci Marriott Bowman officiating. Interment will be at Antis Cemetery, Antis Township.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Leora’s memory be made to Order of the Eastern Star Inc., 105 Free Mason Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 earmarked: Leora Hoffman-Service Dogs, or to the Bellwood-Antis Public Library.
