Kenneth L. Schirf, 75, Altoona, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 20, 2017, at his residence. Friends will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Dec. 28, 2017, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Dec. 28, 2017, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Ronald Osinski and Father Henry J. Riffle officiating. A complete obituary will appear in Tuesday’s Mirror.

Kenneth L. Schirf, 75, Altoona, died Wednesday morning at his residence.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Louis F. and Elda B. (Bloom) Schirf. He married Dorothy Anne Riffle on June 11, 1966, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Johnstown.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two daughters: Anne M. Baker and husband, S. Andrew, of Jersey Shore and Elda M. Clyma of Altoona; a daughter-in-law, Valerie Schirf; seven grandchildren: Michael, Maurice, Natasha, Aaron, Katheryn, Liam and Kelty; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Janice Battisti, and husband, Henry; a brother, Donald Schirf, and wife, Darlene; and a sister-in-law, Delores Schirf.

He was preceded in death by a son, Louis F.; a brother, Gerald; and two sisters: Mary and Patricia.

Ken was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and received an associate degree in mechanical engineering. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Conrail in 1994 as an engineer after 22 years of service.

Kenneth was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona, and American Legion Post 516, Hollidaysburg. He enjoyed working leather, wood working, reading and model trains.

Friends will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Altoona, with Father Ronald Osinski and Father Henry J. Riffle officiating. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.
