Todd Lee Russ

Jan. 7, 1942 – Sept. 24, 2023

Russ

Todd Lee Russ, 81, Altoona, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles and Miriam (Emerick) Russ.

Todd married Judy A. Deegan on June 12, 1982, in Delmont. She preceded him in death on June 22, 2013.

Surviving are his daughter, Amy Heer Frederick of Fredericksburg, Va.; four grandchildren: Riley Hall (Zachary), Nicholas and Andrew Frederick and Gaige Heer and his mother, Elizabeth Locklear, of Warren, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

Todd was preceded in death by a stepson, Aaron Heer; and a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jim Williamson.

He was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served aboard the USS John King DDG3 from 1960-62.

Todd retired as a general foreman from Conrail’s Juniata Locomotive Shops with 33 years of service.

He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.

Todd was also a lifetime member of the Bavarian Aid Society. He was an avid sports fan of Penn State University football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins and showed his support in being a Steelers season ticket holder.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife and grandchildren, especially time on the “401K” houseboat at Raystown Lake, where he had boated since the 1960s. Todd regretted missing his grandchildren’s school functions and sporting events.

He sincerely appreciated his caregivers, who worked tirelessly to keep him at home through the entirety of his illness.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2023, at Greenwood United Methodist, 1505 E. Walton Ave., Altoona, with Pastor T.J. McCabe. Interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

Todd and I were classmates at Pleasant Valley Elementary School from grades 3 through 6.  His dad was a Scout Master and we were close.  I know he had some serious medical issues and am grateful that his medical trials are finished.  Rest in Peace, my friend.
