Harry Allen ‘Pete’ Mummert

March 2, 1942 – Dec. 15, 2015

     

Harry Allen "Pete" Mummert, 73, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Howard and Florence (Kensinger) Mummert. He married Mary Ann Cotter on Sept. 10, 1966, at Altoona Bible Church.

Surviving are his wife; three children: Daniel (Vickie) in North Carolina, Julie (James) Snively of Duncansville and Jessica (Justin) Eger in Ohio; four grandchildren: Rachel and Katie Snively and Harrison and Connor Mummert; three sisters: Barbara Sutch in Florida, Alice Mummert of Altoona and Mary Frederick of Altoona; along with many special nephews and nieces and his beloved dog, Riley.

He was preceded in death by three siblings: Susan Swartz, Kathryn "Katie" Cassanese and John; and a great-nephew, Joseph "Joey" Mummert.

A graduate of Altoona High School, Harry enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960, where he served as a radio relay operator and earned the rank of lance corporal. After his service, he worked at SKF Industries until his retirement.

Harry was a member of Altoona Bible Church. He enjoyed feeding the birds, watching a variety of Penn State sports, cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins, and spoiling his favorite dog.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, followed by a funeral service at 7 p.m. Military rites will be accorded by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard. Committal will be private to the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions, in Harry's name, be sent to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, where he adopted his puppy, Riley.

Sorry to be adding another angel to our 1960 Class website.  I worked with Harry at SKF when I worked

there as the plant nurse.  He was a special man and will be surely missed. I knew he had been struggling for

several years. Sympathy to his family. RIP Harry.   Sandy

Sorry to hear another 1960 classmate has been lost from this world to All who knew and loved him over the years.  My heart-felt feelings go out to you All.

Knew Harry from Baker School. To me he always seemed a pleasant, somewhat quiet spoken, nice guy. The kind of person the world would be better off with more of. Sorry to hear that he's no longer with us.
